A very important book, they all said, and it'll blow the lid of the Bush administration. It came out in July, 2008 and no lids were even flipped off, let alone blown off. That's what's so hard to take. The truth comes out, it's so damning there's no question that prison sentences should have been imminent and then--nothing.

That's why history continues to repeat itself. Because we only get around to seeing how bad it really was in hindsight.Ramonahttp://ramonasvoices.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2772956368752433326.post-22000417002833687102014-02-11T12:29:57.181-05:002014-02-11T12:29:57.181-05:00I get disgusted, too, but nearly as much as I did ...I get disgusted, too, but nearly as much as I did with the Bush/Cheney bunch. I wanted to see justice done, but I can safely say I never wanted to see anybody dead.Ramonahttp://ramonasvoices.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2772956368752433326.post-33007048491437073302014-02-11T11:33:03.384-05:002014-02-11T11:33:03.384-05:00I'm pretty disgusted with Obama myself, but yo...I'm pretty disgusted with Obama myself, but you vote the guy OUT and that is it. And as for Obama's "lawlessness" --- Bush and Cheney taught the freaking Master's Course on that shit, I am struggling thru Jane Mayer's "Dark Side" right now ---stopping to grind teeth as "legality" is re-written for their personal preferences in barbarity.Labryshttp://www.walkofthefallen.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2772956368752433326.post-66900982548438198682014-02-09T08:39:12.712-05:002014-02-09T08:39:12.712-05:00Thanks, Nancy. People still seem to think the Tea Party is a grassroots movement, but they were taken over early on and funded and supported by the Koch Brothers, ALEC,and in Michigan, the Mackinac Center.

They're the ones we're fighting. Their modus operandi is to create this kind of chaos and fear and then spread it wide. My "friends" over in the part of the UP where I live buy into that nonsense, too. There's no question that they think a black president is illegitimate, but it could be any Democrat.

If Hillary wins, then they'll hate the fact that she's a woman. Old white guys, preferably rich racist misogynists, are where it's at for them.Ramonahttp://ramonasvoices.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2772956368752433326.post-89812711279088289232014-02-09T08:31:19.465-05:002014-02-09T08:31:19.465-05:00Back when the Tea Party nutjobs were first flexing...Back when the Tea Party nutjobs were first flexing their political muscle, there were a few politicians from red states who told them they were deluded. I can recall (but unfortunately am blanking on the name) seeing a former Republican congressman from one of the Carolinas talking about his experience. He tried to tell his constituents they were mistaken or misguided; they might not like President Obama's policies but he was the President and they should respect that. He lost the next election. That sent a message to the other sane politicians that if they wanted to stay in office they had to coddle the lunatics.

Of course, even here in the U.P. I encounter a fair number of people who are convinced President Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya. They're the same people who rant about socialism while spending the Social Security money and who have no health insurance other than Medicare or Medicaid. Cognitive dissonance -- it's the American way.

A few weeks ago I read an excellent book about Abraham Lincoln and the political context of the Civil War. There are a lot of similarities between then and now. Back in the 1840s and 1850s there was a small but very vocal minority in the South that absolutely refused to deal with reality. End result? The Civil War. It's an extremely depressing parallel to today.Nancy Mannikkonoreply@blogger.com
